Hello there! My name's Sara, I'm a poet who has decided to take on the challenge of National Novel Writing Month for this November. Fiction is a little out of my comfort zone, but I've managed to conjure up 19,000 from somewhere, so I thought, why not, try NaNoWriMo?
I've written about 3,000 words today, and even though NaNo hasn't technically started, I thought I'd get a head start because I have my final exams of my degree coming up in the few weeks, so I can use all the head start I can muster.
My first bit of advice to anyone attempting NaNoWriMo, or writing fiction in general, is, the Word Sprint is your friend. I'd never tried it before today, but it has enabled me to get so much down on the page today that I'm astounded! It makes writing SO MUCH easier. For those of you who don't know, a word sprint is when you set aside a certain amount of time (I usually go for 15 minutes or 10) and WRITE AS MANY WORDS AS YOU CAN IN THAT TIME LIMIT. I usually find myself going back for another sprint, because I've discovered some part of my novel that I didn't even know existed, and I don't want to stop writing! Try it out. You won't regret it!
Happy writing!
